Christine L. Baker

ORANGE- Christine L. (McLaughlin) Baker, 97, of King James Court, East River Street, died on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.
Born in Madrid, Maine, she was a daughter of the late Carl W. and Edith H. (Banks) McLaughlin and graduated from the Phillips (Maine) High School in 1939, as well as the Kennebec School of Commerce, Gardiner, Maine. Christine had also taken nearly 2 years of business courses at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner (Mass.)
While living in Maine, she worked in clothespin mills in Phillips and Strong, later becoming the clerk for the Kennebec County Farm Bureau in Augusta, Maine. She worked from 1944-1945 as a government Civil Service employee in Anchorage, Alaska, where she was able to release one serviceman for duty elsewhere. She move dto the Athol- Orange area in 1961, coming from Connecticut.
Christine had worked as a bookkeeper, secretary, payroll clerk, and in accounting in various small offices through the years before retiring for health problems.
After retiring, she did work one year at the Sanders Street School in Athol.
Christine had belonged to the Athol Grange, a charter member of the Central Mass. Genealogical Society in Westminster, member King James Association, was a former Camp Fire Girls leader, and member of the TRIAD for Senior Citizens in Orange.
Her nieces and nephews are Betty Jean Wilbur of Middlefield, CT, Clarice M. Hodges of Dixfield, ME, Martin L. McLaughlin of Norway, ME, James W. McLaughlin, Robert K. Mecham of Phillips, ME, Stanley B. Mecham of Williamsburg, VA, Amy E. St. Pierre of Phillips, ME, Jill M. Bernier of Gloucester, ME, and Dennis W. McLaughlin of Phillips, ME, as well as other relatives, Ruth Bunnel and Rowena Jordan.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Richard C. McLaughlin, Kenneth W. McLaughlin, and sisters, Hilda E. Paul and Lilla M. McCourt.
A calling hour will be held on May 19 , 2017 from 10-11 a.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 19, 2017 at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
Interment will follow in South Cemetery, Orange.
