Gary M. Murphy

WENDELL DEPOT- Gary M. Murphy, 62, of 444 Wendell Depot Road, died on Tuesday, February 07, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving family at his side.
Born in Springfield on December 26, 1949, he was a son of Thomas J. and Victoria A. (Nowak) Murphy Sr. and grew up in Wilbraham.
Following high school, Gary enlisted in the United States Army on April 28, 1969 and served during the Vietnam War. He received a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, as well as 2 overseas bars. Gary was honorably discharged on May 25, 1972.
Gary married Sandra (Noyes) on May 5, 1973 and have enjoyed over 38 years together.
Employed by the Rodney Hunt Company in Orange as a group leader, he had 31 years with the company before retiring.
He cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He had also enjoyed camping and fishing.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Sandra Murphy of Wendell Depot; daughters, Shannon Murphy and Heather Jenks and her husband, Warren, all of Orange; a son, Benjamin Murphy and his fiancée, Melissa Judd, of Wendell Depot; grandchildren, Travis Murphy, Brandon Jenks, Brent Jenks, and Brooke Jenks; a sister, Barbara Carr of Palmer; brothers, Thomas Murphy Jr. of Westfield, Patrick Murphy of West Warren, Joseph Murphy of Wilbraham, Brian Murphy of Hampden, and Michael Murphy of Palmer; several nephews and nieces; and his best friend and walking companion, his dog “Oliver”.
Gary was predeceased by both his parents.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday afternoon, February 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, ORANGE, with the Rev. Julia Daley of the Orange United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
