Walter R. Lyman Jr. NEW SALEM- Walter R. Lyman Jr., 64, of 25 Osborne Road, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 7, 2011, surrounded by his family. Walter was a hardworking family man who took pleasure in helping others and in spending time with family and friends. Some of Walter's favorite activities in life included playing with his grandchildren, family trips to the White Mountains, and family gatherings. He was an avid NASCAR fan, collecting numerous NASCAR memorabilia and enjoyed watching races with his family. Walter attended Erving Elementary School, Pepperell Parochial School and New Salem Academy, graduating in 1964. Walter's work career began early, as Walter worked alongside his father, for Athol Motors Trucking Company. He later went to work at Orange Auto Body Shop, Rodney Hunt Co., and as a driver for Bo Ten Trucking. Walter continued to pursue his passion for trucking by becoming an owner-operator of Lost Valley Leasing and eventually Eastern Services Incorporated. Survivors include his wife, Debra J. Lyman, daughter, Nikki L. Lyman, son, Ryan L. Lyman, all of New Salem; son Donald Lyman of Carbondale, CO and son Casey Lyman of Mt. Airy, NC; grandchildren, Kelsie D. Lyman-Meade of New Salem, Dakota L. Lyman of Athol, and Walter R. Lyman IV of White Plains, NC; step mother, Carol Lyman of Erving; brothers, Dennis, Tim, Scott, and Doug; and sisters, Candy, Dolly, and Kim. Walter was predeceased by his mother, Harriet E. Brate Lyman, father, Walter R. Lyman Sr., and a son, Walter R. Lyman III. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange. Funeral services will be held Friday morning, January 14th at 11 a.m. at Witty's Funeral Home in Orange with Fr. William Lunney of St. Mary's Church of Orange officiating. Interment in Erving Center Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
