Christine M. St. John

ORANGE- Christine M. (Smith) St. John, 93, of East River Street, King James Court, died early Wednesday morning, April 4, 2018 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.

Born in Athol on June 11, 1924, she was a daughter of Albert S. and Frances H. (Willis) Smith and grew up in Vermont and Cape Cod before returning to the Athol-Orange area in 1938.

Christine was married to Henry St. John.

Employed by the L. S. Starrett Company for 12 years, she retired in 1988. Christine had previously worked for Orange Shoe Co., Athol Shoe Co., Sprague Garment Co. in Orange, Erving Paper Mill and Union Tool Co. in Orange. Christine had also done wallpapering and painting in the area for many years part time.

Christine had a spirit of adventure and enjoyed traveling, especially in her motor home, up and down the east coast for many years. She traveled out west as well and even made it out to Hawaii. She also enjoyed playing cards.

Christine was a member of the King James Court Association and was always willing to help her family and others.

Survivors include her children, Ed St. John and his wife, Brenda, of CA, Joseph St. John and his wife, Linda, of Ashoskie, NC, and Bruce St. John and his wife, Sherri of Orange; fourteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several great, great grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

Besides her parents, Christine was predeceased by a daughter, Doris St. John, a grandson, sisters, Helen Robinson, Etta Smith, Nina Rivers, Mildred Willard and Hazel Gardner, along with brothers, Edwin Smith and Albert Smith.
