Daniel E. Mead

ATHOL-Dan lost his long battle with end stage liver disease on Thursday, October 12.  He was able to pass at home surrounded by loved ones as per his wishes. Dan’s last months were spent joyously enjoying visits from family, friends, and new friends from his hospice team.

Dan was a cheerful soul who embraced life with gusto. He made it his mission to make the people around him happy, including many jokes.

Dan’s passions in life were many and varied. He was never happier than when he could be around his friends and family. He loved to ride his Harley and spent many a day with his wife, Susan, and friends navigating the roads of New England.  Dan also loved sports, specifically the Patriots and the Red Sox.

Dan married his wife Susan ten years ago after a two year courtship. On their first date Dan had declared he would marry her.  More than a little skeptical she had replied she would never marry again, as she had no time for that. In the end Dan’s determination won her over.

Dan’s marriage to Sue brought 5 children, 5 grand children and a great grand-child into Dan’s life. Though Dan had no biological children he felt blessed for the big family he married into.  Five years ago Dan was able to welcome his great grand-daughter, whom he nick-named ‘Lilums’. He greatly enjoyed her visits.

Dan will be greatly missed by his extensive family and many friends.  He was preceded by his father Ernest W. Mead, his grandparents: Dana and Frances Bogart; Donald and Stella Mead and his aunts: Donna Mead Margaritas and Trinka Bogart Lynch, father-in-law: Lawrence Mounce.

He will be missed by his wife: Susan Chadsey Mead. His mother: Lynne Bogart Mead. His sister and brother-in-law: Tracey Mead MacRae and Steven MacRae. sister-in-law: Janet Finnimore. brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Michael Finnimore and Bo Kim. brother-in-law: Ian Finnimore. mother-in-law: Jane Mounce.  His aunts: Ruthann Bogart Gold and husband Steven Gold, and Anne Parker Bogart. Uncles: Dana Bogart and partner Jane Mitchell. His nephews: Jordan MacRae and nieces: Kelley MacRae Garcia, Sara MacRae Wright and Molly MacRae. His step children: Sarah Carron, Eric Carron, Megan Chadsey, Heather Chadsey, and Alex Chadsey. His grand children: Christopher Mabey, Ashley Mabey, Jonathon Oakes, Jakob Carron, Alyssa Pratt and his great grand-daughter Lilyanne Mabey as well as great nieces, nephews and cousins.
