David A. Benjamin

ATHOL- David A. Benjamin, 42, of Pleasant Street, died on August 9, 2018.

Born in Greenfield on January 31, 1976, he was the son of Albert E. and Bonnie (Berger) Benjamin and spent all of his life in the Athol-Orange area, graduating from Athol High School in 1995.

Dave was very active in sports. He participated in school and Athol Area YMCA sports including basketball, soccer and Little League baseball. 

He started in scouting as a  Cub Scout and attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank of Boy Scouts. He was an avid hiker. He attended National Jamborees as well hiked High Adventure High Peaks of New York and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. 

Dave was a member of the Athol Congregational Church.

He was married to Stephanie (Guilmette) in 2005.

A self employed painting contractor, he owned and operated Benjamin Painting for over 10 years and was skilled in bringing out the beauty of his work.

He lived for and enjoyed time with his family. Family and friends meant the world to Dave.

Survivors include his parents, Al and Bonnie Benjamin of Athol; his wife, Stephanie Benjamin of Warwick; a son, Seth Benjamin of Warwick, a step son, Demetri Guilmette of Orange; a sister, Rebecca Schultzberg and her husband, Glen, of Brookline; nieces, Lena and Viola Schultzberg; uncles and aunts John and Mary Benjamin of Sunderland and; Carl and Gail Berger of New York; cousins, relatives and many friends.

Dave was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, John and Antonia Benjamin and his maternal grandparents, Warren and Dorothy Berger, and his beloved dog, “Tikka”.

A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 from 10-11 a.m. at the Athol Congregational Church, 1225 Chestnut Street, Athol.

A celebration of life will follow at 11 a.m. in church with Rev. Beverly Prestwood-Taylor officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations for Seth Benjamin’s education. Checks may be made to Fidelity Advisors, c/o Kessler Investments, to the attention of Seth Benjamin Education Fund, 2070 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.
