Doris E. Raymond
ORANGE- Doris Eileen (Peel)(Reid)(Reed) Raymond, formerly of Orange, died peacefully at Beechwood Assisted Living In Lecanto, Florida on January 21, 2018.
Born March 23, 1915 in Brooklyn, New York to Hanna (Bartlett) and John Buttery Peel, she celebrated her 102nd birthday in March of 2017.
Doris was hard working and volunteered with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office in Florida well into her 80’s.
Doris was a long time member of the Order of Eastern Star, a member and ordained Reverend of the Spiritualist Church of Templeton. She was also a member of the Orange Central Congregational Church.
Employed by the Erving Paper Mill, Doris was also an accomplished seamstress, wrote poetry and practiced a healthy, natural way of life. She did organic gardening long before it was the thing to do. Doris had a lovely singing voice, was a great cook and baker with holidays always a happy time at her home and no one ever left her home empty handed.
Doris leaves daughters Sally Ploof and Karen Doubleday, both of Orange; grandsons Jeffrey Ploof (Elaine) of Orange, Dana Ploof (Shelley) of New Salem, Jason Ploof (Bobbi) of Huntington Beach, California, and Robert McKenney (Kristie) of New Hampshire; granddaughters, Deborah Deane of Pennsylvania, Tracy Flaherty (Tom) of Orange, Roxann Cormier (David) of Gill, Stacy Reid of Washington; seven great grandchildren; nieces Betsy Peck of New Hampshire and Jocelyn McDonnell of Arizona.
Doris was predeceased by sisters, Myra Peel, Emily Peel, Gertrude Ray, Mead Aspinall and Kathleen Trempe; brothers, Harry and Billy Peel; a son, Thomas Reid; and husbands, William J. Reid, Charles Reed, and John “Jack” Raymond.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held o Friday, March 23, 2018 at 2 p.m. at South Cemetery, 585 South Main Street, orange, with Rev. Dr. Megan Leary of the Orange Central Congregational Church officiating.
