Dorothy M. Woodard
ATHOL- Dorothy M. “Dottie” (Alner) Woodard, 91, of South Main Street, died Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare, 119 Belmont Street, in Worcester.
Born in Athol at the family home on Walnut Street on August 6, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Arthur H. and Mabel L. (Campbell) Alner and grew up in Athol, graduating from Athol High in 1944.
In 1945, Dottie married Harold H. Woodard and enjoyed their 25 years together until his death in 1970.
Dottie had worked at the former Union Twist Drill in Athol for 20 years before retiring and had pre4viously worked for the Harrington Richardson Company in Gardner for 6 years.
Dottie was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church in Athol for many years.
A very warm and caring lady, Dottie made friends easily and had loved her social time at McDonald’s visiting with many friends.
Besides her parents, Dottie was predeceased by her siblings, Ernest J. Alner, Austin Alner, Robert Alner, twins Olive M. Reter and Edna Letomen, Roberta P. Ford and Evelyn J. Alner who died as a child. She was also predeceased by good friend and companion of 40 years, Russell Cox.
Dottie leaves behind extended family as well as long time friends of 30+ years, Joan and Norman Gates of Orange.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School Street, Athol, with Fr. Edwin Montana officiating.
Interment will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol.
