Eugene R. Monette

ORANGE- Eugene R. “Gene” Monette, 77, of Wheeler Avenue, died Wednesday evening, November 1, 2017 at Heywood Hospital in Gardner.

Born on October 24, 1940 in Gardner, he was a son of the late Delphis and Rochelle (Langevin) Monette and grew up in Gardner, attending  Holy Rosary School and graduating from Gardner High School in 1958.

On May 23, 1963, Gene enlisted into the United States Army and served both during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Sergeant E-5 before his honorable discharge on April 30, 1969.

On June 6, 1970, Gene married Marion J. (Ellis) at Holy Rosary Church in Gardner and they have enjoyed 47 years of marriage.

Gene had worked for Leominster Savings Bank, later transferring to Gardner Savings Bank where he became a Vice President and retired in 1989

Gene was a member of the Orange American Legion Post #172.

A talented and skilled craftsman, Gene enjoyed woodworking and built many fine pieces of furniture

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Marion Monette of Orange; sons, Mark Monette and his wife, Tonya, of Orange and Gregg Monette and his wife, Kara, of Lee, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Kelsea Monette, Kyle Monette, Cameron Monette and Connor Monette; step grandchildren, Madison Martowska, Nadia Martowska, and Zoe Martowska; and a niece, Janice Ellis of Burlington, Vermont.

At Gene’s request, there will be no calling hours, and services and interment in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon will be private.

The family suggests donations in Gene’s memory to the GVNA Healthcare, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440.
