Kenneth L. Dennis

ORANGE- Kenneth L. Dennis, 68, formerly of East Main and Eddy Streets, died on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol, following an illness.
Born in Gardner on July 28, 1944, he was a son of the late Arthur and Evelyn (Major) Dennis.
Ken was married to Susan A. (Copeland) on August 1, 1964 and had enjoyed 43 years together at the time of her death on November 14, 2007.
Ken had worked for Vegetation Control Service in Athol for many years starting out  traveling throughout New England with a crew and later taking a supervisor role. He had also worked at Hazel’s Orange Community Clothing for over 14 years.
Known as “papa” to his family, he enjoyed playing, coloring  poster boards and painting crafts with the grandchildren. Ken also enjoyed going to flea markets and making money with his son in law.
An avid Red Sox fan, he also enjoyed watching the New England Patriots and had also enjoyed watching the Boston Bruins until the first strike which turned him off.
Ken liked watching birds and loved the old John Wayne movies.
While at Quabbin Valley, he made friends with the residents and staff whom he enjoyed talking with and appreciated their greetings.
Survivors include his children, Cherilee Dennis Shaw, Kenny W. Dennis and William W. Dennis Sr., all of Orange; grandchildren, Cyle J. Dennis, Corey W. Dennis, William W. Dennis Jr., Stephanie Dennis, Shailee Dennis, Legacie Shaw, Jessica Dennis, Erica Dennis; sisters Loretta, Margie, Maxine, and Lucille, all of Florida; brothers, Donald “Skip” of Virginia and Dean of Florida; son in law, Randy Shaw Sr. of Orange; daughter in law, Angela Castganaro; and his beloved dog, “Maggie”.
Besides his parents and wife, Ken was predeceased by brothers, Richard and Norman.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held in the spring of 2013 at Silver Lake Cemetery in Athol at a date and time to be announced.
Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, is directing the arrangements.
