Kirk D. Stroup
FITCHBURG- Kirk D. Stroup, 58, of Pleasant Street and formerly of Orange, died on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare Campus in Worcester following a sudden illness.
Born in Washington Courthouse, Ohio on September 14, 1959, he was a son of the late Edward J. and Arlene (Chevalier) Stroup and grew up in Orange, graduating from Smith Vocational in 1978.
Following high school, Kirk enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and made an impressive career there, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Kirk served during Desert Storm in Kuwait. He was honorably discharged in 1998 after 20 years of decorated service. Some of his awards were Rifle Marksmanship Badge, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Letter of Commendation and Good Conduct Medal.
Kirk loved spending time with family and friends, as well as working on his trucks and fishing.
Survivors include his siblings, Kathlene Dahlstrom and her husband, Eric, Kim Richards, Kevin Stroup and his wife, Debbie, and Keane Stroup and his wife, Pakawan, all of Orange, and Keith Stroup and his wife, Trudy, of Joplin, Missouri; several aunts and uncles; many nephews and nieces, as well as grand nieces, grandnephews, and cousins. Also a step daughter, Nicole Hilde, from New Bern, NC.
Kirk was predeceased by his father in 1983 and his mother in 1998.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 1-3 p.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
There are no formal services.
Interment in Tully Cemetery, Orange, will be private.
