ORANGE- Peter W. Ward, 78, of East River Street and formerly of Warwick Road, died December 25, 2018 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.

Born in Waltham on March 17, 1940, he was a son of the late Richard and Alfreda (Short) Ward and grew up in Watertown.

Peter enlisted in the United States Navy on June 2, 1958 and served during the Vietnam era before his honorable discharge on June 14, 1962.

Peter married Colleen (Gallagher) in 1977 and have enjoyed 41 years of marriage. He was previously married to Jospehine (Giacoppe).

A corrections officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Peter retired after 20 years of service.

He had enjoyed hunting and gardening and was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Peter is survived by his loving wife, Colleen Ward of Orange; children, Lisa Green of Middleton, Peter Ward of Everett, Ryan Ward, Paul Ward, Patrick Ward and Michael Ward, all of Orange; ten grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Ward of Florida.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, David Ward.

There are no calling hours or formal services.
