PHYLLIS N. KINGSBURY
ORANGE- Phyllis N. (Gidney) Kingsbury, 92, formerly of Holtshire Road, died Monday, January 08, 2018, a day before her 93rd birthday, at Athol Hospital. Born in Morristown, New Jersey on January 9, 1925, she was the daughter of Phillip M. and Mildren E. (Totman) Gidney.
She was a member of the North Congregational Church of New Salem where she served as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher, and VBS teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Orange Historical Society and the Swift River Valley Historical Society.
She loved to be around people and enjoyed going on hikes in the Quabbin with the Swift River Valley Historical Society for many years until she was no longer able to join the all-day hikes. She enjoyed travel and journeyed to Canada in her 70s and the Philippines in her 80s.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, Robert W. Kingsbury, a granddaughter, two great-grandchildren, and her three brothers.
Survivors include her sister, Janice Pratt of Maine, four children, Mrs. Carolyn Anderson (Paul), Ms. Donna Lunde, Ms. Nancy Kingsbury (Kurt Baacke) and Mr. John Kingsbury (Ellen); eight grandchildren, Mrs. Karen Anderson, Mr. Peter Anderson, Mrs. Sarah Barrett, Mr. Matthew Anderson, Mrs. Lydia Gagosian, Mrs. Lauren Nugent, Mr. Erich Baacke, and Mr. Henry Kingsbury; and 24 great-grandchildren.
There are no calling hours.
Interment will be in South Cemetery, Orange, on April 7, 2018 at 10 a.m.
A memorial service will be held on April 7, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the North Congregational Church of New Salem, 60 Elm Street, New Salem, with Rev. Edward Boren officiating.
