Ralph L. Jay

WARWICK- Ralph L. Jay, 90, formerly of Winchester Road, died late Thursday evening, January 10, 2019 at Applewood Rehabilitation in Winchester, NH.

Born in Lowell on June 23, 1928 he grew up and attended schools in Beverly.

Ralph joined the Merchant Marines for several years and then went to work for WSRP Radio and retired from WWLP Channel 22 in Springfield. He had traveled the country installing antennas and wasn’t a bit afraid of heights.

On April 17, 1952, Ralph married Helen (Kyriakon) and enjoyed a happy life together until her death on July 26, 2008. They had built their home together in Warwick in the 1950’s, establishing the Granite State Tree Farm where Christmas trees were grown.

Ralph enjoyed many activities including building homes, his dogs, mountain climbing, skiing, music and reading. He was an enthusiastic motorcyclist and had owned numerous motorcycles over the years. He had a passion for boating including canoeing and sail boating.

Ralph and Helen enjoyed going to auctions as well as antiquing. In the early springtime, Ralph would enjoy making his own maple syrup.

The family is very thankful to everyone at Applewood Rehabilitation that cared for Ralph over the past several years for their kindness and love shown to him.

Survivors included a niece, Joyce LaFlesh and her husband, Richard, and their children, Brian and Paul, all of Suffield, CT; a nephew, David Brownlee of Easthampton; sister in law, Lucy Ruth of Delaware, OH; many friends including Bob Whitney, Susan Barber, Marcy Robitaille, Steve and Carolyn Fellows, the Wallock family of Winchester, NH, and many others.
