Richard K. Stone

MONTAGUE- Richard K. “Dick” Stone, 96, of Federal Street, died Monday evening, October 23, 2017, three days before his 97th birthday, at the New England Health Center in Sunderland.

Born on October 26, 1920, he was a son of the late Delbert and Musa Stone and grew up in the Montague area and graduated from Smith Vocational High School in Northampton.

On October 6, 1948, Dick married Mildred (Hurtle) and they just celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.

Dick had worked at the Pontiac plant in Michigan and for a body shop in Florida before returning to Montague where he owned and operated his own car sales and repair shop for many years.

He was a member of the Shutesbury Athletic Club for a number of years and enjoyed shooting pool and playing cards there. An avid race fan, Dick had owned a race car nicknamed the “Polka Dot Special”.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Mildred Stone of Montague; his children, Marcia Norwood and her husband, David, and Richard K. Stone Jr., all of Montague, and Gary Stone and his wife, Lola, of Whately; grandchildren, Amy Doody, Melissa Koncz, Stephen Norwood, Michael Norwood, Kelly Croteau, Melinda Stone, Gary Stone Jr., and Matthew Stone; 16 great grandchildren with another on the way; and many nephews and nieces.

Besides his parents, Dick was predeceased by a loving son, Daryl Stone; and siblings, Louise Wilson, Howard Stone and Wilton Stone.

A calling hour will be held on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 10-11 a.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home in Orange on Monday, October 30th, with Rev. William Stone officiating.

Interment will follow in South Cemetery, Orange.
