Richard N. Piper

ATHOL- Richard N. Piper, 57, of Kelton Street, died unexpectedly at Athol Hospital on Tuesday morning, August 8, 2017 after being stricken ill earlier.

Born in Athol on May 29, 1960, he was a son of Donald and Jacqueline (Clukey) Piper and grew up in Orange and attended Ralph C. Mahar Regional School before transferring to Franklin County Technical School in Turners Falls.

Following high school, Richard served honorably in the United States Army from 1982 until 1984.

In 2004, he married Margaret (Houghton).

Richard had worked at several area businesses, including the Slencil Company in Orange.

An antiques buff, Richard also enjoyed digging through storage lockers for treasurers. He also enjoyed camping and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Piper of Athol; sisters, Renee Boudreau and Roxanne Kakitis, both of Orange; step sisters, Debbie Curtis of Orange, Connie Segial of Old Orchard Beach, Maine and Lorie Hall of Maine; a step brother, Doug Woods of Maine; several nephews and nieces as well as aunts and uncles; and step children, Ellen Webb and Jonathan Webb.

Richard was predeceased by his mother, Jacqueline “Jackie” Piper in 1974.

There are no calling hours or formal services.

Interment will be private at South Cemetery in Orange.
