Ronald E. Roy
NEW SALEM- Ronald E. “Ron” Roy, 58, of William Rice Road, died unexpectedly at Athol Hospital on Friday, September 28, 2018 after being stricken ill at home.
Born in Athol on July 16, 1960, he was a son of Richard and Eva (Blanchard) Roy and grew up in Athol, graduating from Athol High School in 1978.
In 2009, Ron married Cynthia “Cyndi” (Richards) after meeting her in 2000, and have enjoyed their life together at their country home.
Ron was employed by the L. S. Starrett Company in Athol for close to 30 years, working as an inspector.
An avid Red Sox fan, Ron and Cyndi have taken in games at 8 different ballparks. Ron also had played softball, loved to golf and enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino.
Survivors include his loving wife, Cyndi Roy of New Salem; their children, Sara Simms (Jonathan) of Fitchburg, Stephanie Wood (Stan) of Texas and Andrew Gifford (Katie) of Franklin; grandchildren, Kellan Simms, Addison Wood, August Wood, Hawk Wood, and Victoria Gifford; his siblings, Anita Bevis (Bruce) of Athol, Rob Roy (Mary) of Leominster, Rick Roy (Deb) of Kernersville, SC, and Karen Cormier (Gilles) of California; many nephews and nieces; as well as extended family and friends.
Ron was predeceased by both parents.
Calling hours will be held on October 13, 2018 from 9- 10:45a.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on October 13th at Saint Mary’s Church, 19 Congress Street, Orange, with Fr. Shaun O’Connor officiating.
