Thomas K. Schatz
ATHOL- Thomas K. Schatz, 69, of Brown Street, Athol, MA, died Friday evening, June 29, 2018 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.
Born in Greenfield on December 8, 1948, he was a son of the late Richard and Claire (Hurshman) Schatz and grew up mostly in Greenfield, with a few years in Connecticut.
Thomas graduated from Greenfield High School in 1968 and was drafted into the United States Army. Thomas served from May 11, 1971 at Fort Hamilton in New York with the Military Police and was honorably discharged on May 10, 1973.
Tom was married to Darlene C. (Gordon) on June 6, 1997. They were married for 21 years and spent 30 happy years together.
Employed as a Quality Control Manager, Tom worked for Arland Tool in Sturbridge for a number of years before retiring. He had previously worked for the L. S. Starrett Company in Athol and the former Kontro Company in Orange.
Tom enjoyed gardening, woodworking, puttering in his workshop and time spent in the woods. Tom was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan who loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife, Darlene Schatz of Athol; daughters, Ingrid Schatz of Orange and Gretel Schatz of Gill; a step-son, Jason Ruttle of Greenfield; grandchildren, Hugh, Sylvia, Pearl, Clara, and Owen; sons-in-laws Bryan Long of Orange and Stephen Allison of Gill; a brother, Richard Schatz of Turners Falls and Florida; a nephew and niece, Joshua Schatz and Christina Schatz both of North Carolina; grandnephews, Mason and Micah, both of North Carolina; and many beloved cousins. Thomas was predeceased by a brother, Andrew Schatz in 1989.
There are no calling hours.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced.
