ORANGE- Warner W. Rice, 91, formerly of East River Street, died peacefully on December 23, 2018 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.
Born in Barre on July 7, 1927, he was a son of the late Clarence and Edna (Noble) Rice and grew up in Barre.
Warner was married to Irene (Donais) and enjoyed 68 years together.
Warner enlisted in the United States Navy on August 5, 1945 and was honorably discharged on August18, 1946
Warner was employed at the Rodney Hunt Company in Orange as a welder for 40 years before retiring in 1988.
Warner loved camping, fishing and making his home and yard look pristine, but most of all, playing and laughing with his family, especially with the grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife, Irene Rice of Athol; his children, Craig Rice and his wife, Jane, of Athol, and John Rice of Port St. Lucie, Florida; grandchildren, Kirsten Bashaw and her husband, Casey, of Orange and Felicia Shufelt of Athol; great grandchildren, Camden, Matthew, Lauren, Jayvion, Imani, and Lilly; and a sister in law, Dorothy Truckey of Athol.
Besides his parents, Warner was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Shufelt, a brother, Walter Rice and sisters, Norma Lindsey, Phyllis Rice Davis and Evelyn Rice who died at age 13 in an accident.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held on May 16, 2019 at 11 a.m. in South Cemetery, 585 South Main Street, Orange.
