Alice M. (Barnes) Woessner

ATHOL- Alice M. (Barnes) Woessner, 92, of Highland Street, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 10, 2025 at Alliance Health at Baldwinville.

Born in Orange on September 11, 1933, she was the daughter of Harold L. and Myrtle (Swan) Barnes, she grew up in Orange and graduated from Orange High School in 1951.

Alice was previously married to Robert J. Woessner who died on September 13, 2005.

Employed by the Athol- Royalston Regional School District, Alice was the cafeteria manager and retired in 1996, having the cafeteria named in her honor, “Alice’s Restaurant”. She had previously worked for Orange National Bank, Dawn Dairy, Tepper’s and Pete & Henry’s Restaurant. Alice had also been an Avon lady and a Boy Scout Den Mother.

Alice was an active member of the Athol Congregational Church and had worked many suppers and fairs.

An avid cook, Alice also enjoyed doing puzzles, reading, crocheting and the Boston Red Sox. She served as the cook at Camp Wiyaka over 7 years, helped with Blood mobile canteens and was an Election Warden and poll worker for the Town of Athol.

Survivors include her children, Diane Myntti (Dale) of Athol, Michael Woessner (Pat) of Gardner, Richard Woessner of Agawam, Jimmy Woessner (Diane) of New Salem, Joanne Cole (Bob) of Chapel Hill, TN, Elaine Heath (Kevin) of Athol and Jean Fountain (Kevin) of Athol; grandchildren, Sarah, Christa, Shaunna, Alan, Steven, Errin, Thomas, Kurtis, Carly, Stephanie, Travis and Nathan; great grandchildren, Ryan, Madison, Owen, Braycen, Logan, Raelynn, Isaiah, Coraline, Heather, Hailey, Ava and Oliver. She also leaves her siblings, Nancy Blackmer of North Orange, Roy Barnes of Rome, NY, Harriette Kring of Milton, WA, and Kenny Barnes of Columbia, MD; and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Alice was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Field, a brother, Leslie Barnes and a daughter in law, Jennifer Woessner.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025 from 4-6 p.m., at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 11 a.m., at Witty’s Funeral Home in Orange.

Interment will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol.
