ATHOL- Ann E. (Marshall) (Byrd) Sloan, 80, of Grove Street, died unexpectedly at home on January 12, 2025.
Born in Orange on September 26, 1944, she was the daughter of Walter and Gertrude (Webster) Marshall and grew up in Greenfield and Orange, graduating from Ralph C. Mahar Regional in 1962.
Ann was married to William Sloan who predeceased her. She had previously been married to Jesse Byrd Jr.
Ann spent most of her working career as a DARE and police officer, having worked for the Massachusetts State Police, the Town of Sunderland and the Town of North Attleboro. She later drove senior shuttle van.
Ann loved genealogy, knitting and antique collecting.
Ann is survived by her children, Jesse Byrd of North Attleboro, Melissa Byrd of Tallahassee, FL, Athena Galvin-Byrd and her husband John Galvin, of Seattle, WA, Heather Byrd of Charleston, NC, and Melanie Sloan of Denver, CO; many grandchildren; as well as her siblings, David Marshall of New York, Barbara Marshall of Florida, and Neil Marshall of Massachusetts; along with many nephews and nieces.
Besides her parents and husbands, Ann was predeceased by a brother, Stuart Marshall of Massachusetts.
There are no calling hours.
A celebration of life is being planned for this summer at a date and time to be announced.
Interment will be private in Warwick Center Cemetery, Warwick.
Donations in Ann’s memory can be made to the donor’s choice.
