ATHOL- Anne Frances Stanchis Gatautis was called home by her heavenly Father on September 6, 2023 while residing at the home of her son Ronald.
Born in Lawrence, MA on August 31, 1920 to John and Anna (Adamaitis) Stanchis. Anne was one of five children, growing up in Haverhill, MA, graduating from Haverhill High School in 1938.
After working finance companies in Newport, RI and Gardner, MA, she moved to Athol and married Joseph Gatautis in 1947 where they raised their family.
Anne was very active in the community. She was Executive Director of the Athol Housing Authority for 10 years, retiring in 1989. A member and past president from 1981-2013 with the Athol Council on Aging, a Board of Director for Franklin County Home Care, an election worker 1964-1998, a Town meeting representative 1963-2000, Athol School Committee 1971-1977, member, past president and treasurer of Athol Golden Ages, Cub Scout leader and Den Mother, member St. Francis of Assisi Women’s Club, and Knights of Lithuania.
Anne enjoyed and participated in community reading day in the Athol Public Elementary Schools.
Anne loved to paint in oils, where she won several medals for her paintings. She painted special pictures of each one of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed singing and could always find her in the balcony with the choir at St. Francis.
Anne is survived by 3 sons, Robert and his wife, Brenda, of Mont Vernon, NH, Richard, and Ronald and his wife, Leslie, all of Athol; 8 grandchildren, Christopher, Timothy, Michael, David, Kelly Fecteau, Maria Woods, Margaret Ferguson and Jennifer Hagar; 14 great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces.

Calling hours will be Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 6- 8 p.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 101 Main Street, Athol.
Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anne’s memory to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 101 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.
