Arlene B. (Bassett) Wise

PHILLIPSTON- Arlene B. (Bassett) Wise, 88, of State Road, died on Friday morning, March 28, 2025 at the home of her daughter in Hubbardston.

Born in Athol on May 8, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Donald H. and Ruby D. (Loomis) Bassett and graduated from Athol High School in 1955.

On March 10, 1956, Arlene married John L. Wise in Phillipston and they enjoyed over 68 years of marriage until his death on January 26, 2025.

Arlene had worked briefly at the N. D. Cass Company and the J. F. McElwain Shoe Co., both in Athol.

She enjoyed cooking, knitting, and especially doing puzzles.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Wilson of Hubbardston; John G. Wise and his wife Jackie of Phillipston; three grandchildren, Brannen Wilson and wife Alyssa of Phillipston, Dane Wilson and wife Brittany of Phillipston and Asa Wise of Worcester; great grandchildren, Richard, Roman, Eva, Rosalyn and Rhea Wilson.

Besides her parents, Arlene was predeceased by her siblings, Cecil Bosworth, Richard Bosworth, Edna Bassett Castine and Donald Bassett

Services and interment will be private.

Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, is assisting the family.
