ORANGE- Arthur J. “Junior” Dirth Jr., 95, of Chestnut Hill died late Thursday evening, May 16, 2024 at Fitchburg Health Care.
Born in Orange on the family farm on February 28, 1929, he was the son of Arthur J. Sr. and Jessie (Carey) Dirth and grew up in Orange and graduated from Orange High School. Junior later graduated from an electrician’s school in Boston. It was no wonder why he was called upon by family members to modify electrical situations.
Junior served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from February 12, 1951 until his honorable discharge on February 9, 1953.
Following his service in the Army, Junior returned to Orange and went to work at the Union Twist Drill in Athol until it was closed, at which time he went to work at the Bete Fog Nozzle in Greenfield until hisretirement.
Junior was an avid outdoorsman. He and his brothers use to enjoy many days of fishing and hunting and he was a trapper for several years. Living on the family farm, he took part in raising farm animals and the large garden with his brothers and sister. At one point, Junior revived the family sugar house and produced maple syrup for several years.
Junior is survived by several nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents, Junior was predeceased by his brothers, Almon F. Dirth Sr., Fred A. Dirth, Paul Dirth, Malcolm Dirth, as well as sisters Marian Dirth, and two infants, Gladys Dirth and Frances Dirth.
