ATHOL- Arthur L. “Captain” Dorow Jr., 87, of Chestnut Hill Avenue, died late Wednesday evening, July 24, 2024 at Alliance Healthcare in Baldwinville.
Born on May 21, 1937 in the former town of Dana, he was the son of Arthur L. Sr. and Helena (Wilbur) Dorow and attended schools in Dana and Petersham.
In 1963, Arthur married his sweetheart, Joyce (Patterson), and they enjoyed over 61 years of marriage until her death last month on June 18, 2024.
Arthur worked at Harris Manufacturing for many years before retiring. He had also done farm work.
In his younger years, Arthur was an avid hunter and fisherman, later he enjoyed wood working and creating bird houses and plane spinners that he sold from his front yard.
A happy go lucky guy, Arthur enjoyed being a jokester and playing card tricks.
Arthur is survived by his daughter Sandra “Sandi” Dorow of Athol; granddaughter Kaylie Ann Dorow of Athol; a sister, Alice Adams; a brother Raymond Dorow; and several nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents and wife, Arthur was predeceased by a son, Brian Dorow on August 21, 2021. He also was predeceased by his siblings, Ruth Dorow, Dorothy Bowers, Shirley Eicher, Althea Dorow, Barbara Brunnell, Lester Dorow, Ernest Dorow, Kenneth Dorow, Lauren Dorow, George Dorow, Wilbur Dorow, Richard Dorow, and Melvin Dorow.
There are no calling hours.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at the Orange American Legion, 40 Daniel Shays Highway, Orange.
A graveside service will be held in South Cemetery, Orange, at a later date and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations to help offset the costs of two funerals, donations are suggested to Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, MA 01364.
