ORANGE- Barbara R. “Barbie” (Britt) Johnson, 85, formerly of West River Street, died on Friday afternoon, March 21, 2025 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.
Born in Athol on April 12, 1939, the daughter of Henry E. and Nancy L. (Towne) Britt and graduated from Athol High School in 1960.
She was married to Richard F. Johnson, who predeceased her on January 14, 2014.
Barbara had worked at the Riveto Manufacturing Co. in Orange several years as well as 21 years at the J. F. McElwain Shoe Co. in Athol.
Barbara was a member of the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church in Athol, and served in the church choir 18 years.
Besides her parents and husband, Barbara was predeceased by a sister, May Britt, and a brother, Douglas Britt.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday morning, April 1, 2025 at 10 a.m. in South Cemetery, 585 South Main Street, Orange, with Rev. Stacy Hartford of the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church officiating.
Donations in Barbara’s memory are suggested to the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, 40 Island Street, Athol, MA 01331 or the Shriner’s Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
