Betty A.(Lawson)(Salahna) Chenausky Obituary

ORANGE- Betty A. (Lawson)(Salahna) Chenausky,  86, of East River Street, King James Court, died on Sunday evening, July 18, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester with loved ones around her. She was the youngest girl of twelve children and the last surviving.

Born in Orange on June 3, 1935, she was the daughter of Ivar Sr. and Mabel (Peterson) Lawson and grew up in Orange, graduating from Orange High School in 1953. While in school, Betty participated in choir, cheerleading and minstrel shows and loved singing.

She was married to Stanley Salahna in 1956 and who died in 2009. Betty had been married to James Chenausky, who also predeceased her.

Family was the upmost importance to Betty and enjoyed her time with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty had worked for Athol Toy and Trifilo's Grocery as well as doing home health care.

A member of the Athol-Orange Baptist Church, she also belonged to the Red Hat Society.

Betty had lived in Rindge, New Hampshire for 20 years before moving back to Orange.

Survivors include her loving children, Tom Salahna and nis wife, Dianne, of Orange, Jon Salahna and his wife, Dee, of Athol, Cheryl Chaisson and her partner, Milty Mitchell of Athol, and Salli Knechtel and her husband, Karl, of Athol; grandchildren, Shannon Frentzos (Aaron) of Greenfield, Derrick Knechtel (Erin) of Belchertown, Torey Salahna of Athol, Andrew Chaisson (Nicole) of New Ipswich, Jordan Salahna (Carlos) of Orange, Justin Salahna of Orange, and Zachary Chaisson (Emily) of Rindge, NH; great grandchildren, Lucy Knechtel, John Knechtel, Millie Chaisson, Ethan Chaisson, Kiara Tosado, Gio Tosado, and another on the way; as well as nephews and nieces and grandnephews and grandnieces.

Besides her parents and husbands, Betty was predeceased by her brothers, Pint Lawson, Wally Lawson, Billy Lawson, Larry Lawson, and Ivar Lawson Jr., as well as sisters, Ramona Lawson, Helen Lacoste, Dottie MacIntosh, Shirley Castle, Marjorie Cook, and Avis Hebert.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.

Services and interment at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in Betty's name to the Orange Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 298, Orange, MA 01364-0298.
