WARWICK, MA - Beverly Emeline (Shepardson) Farley passed away the afternoon of Wednesday, August 7th after a long illness.
She is preceded in death by her husband, of over 65 years, Walter Dixson Farley III, parents George Shepardson and Janet Ripley Shepardson, her brother Arthur Shepardson and wife Joann who also resided in Warwick.
Beverly leaves her 5 children, Robert (w. Deborah), Patricia Carolus (h. Robert), Steven (w. Leah), Daniel (w. Gwen), and Joseph (w. Kelly), beloved grandchildren (10), great-grandchildren (12), great-great-grandchildren(3). She also leaves her brother David Shepardson (w. Beverly), her sister Clara Shepardson, her brother Richard Shepardson (w. Patricia), Sister-in-law Claire Michaels (w. Jean), and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
Beverly was born in Montague, MA on August 26, 1939, and grew up in Warwick, MA. After marriage she and Walter established their full-time residence in Groton, CT. Beverly and Walter moved back to Warwick full-time where they built their own home on White Rd. in 1984-85.
Beverly graduated from high school in Orange, MA and attended one semester at UMASS Amherst before getting married and starting a family. While her primary occupation was raising the family she also worked numerous jobs outside of the home over the years. These included Mystic Seaport, Woolworths, Benny’s department store, an office manager and assisting her children with paper route New London Day while in CT. Then in Massachusetts, Warwick Country Store, Warwick Town Hall, Athol Hospital, Dept. of Unemployment in Gardner, and ultimately working for and retiring from L.S. Starrett Company at the same time as her husband.
Beverly and Walter enjoyed many hobbies which they shared with children, and grandchildren, including fishing, boating, waterskiing, ice-fishing, ice skating, snowmobiling, attending Red Sox games, gardening and woodworking. She coached softball and was a Cub Scout den leader. She played in a bowling league for numerous years while in CT.
In addition to watching the Red Sox, Beverly and Walter were often present at basketball, soccer, baseball, and softball games for grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Even as her health failed, she always had a very positive attitude, was a friend to all, and many commented, to know her was to love her. She will be missed by many.
A memorial service for friends and family will be held at Metcalf Memorial Chapel in Warwick, MA on September 14th at 1:00 PM
