Bonnie K. (Olson) Hurtle Obituary

ORANGE - Bonnie K. (Olson) Hurtle passed away peacefully on January 4, 2021 due to complications while courageously battling melanoma.

She was born on August 25, 1944 in Montague, MA, the daughter of John H. Olson, Jr. and Doris (Bourque) Olson. She graduated from St. Pius X Catholic High School in Chamblee, GA in 1962.

On June 10, 1967, she married Donald J. Hurtle and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage.

Before retiring in 2003, Bonnie worked as a cook at Butterfield Elementary School. She worked at Tepper’s and Periwinkle Place, both previously in Orange.  She volunteered at the polling stations on election days and with other local organizations, including Orange American Legion Post 172. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church.

A dedicated wife, mother, sister and friend, Bonnie especially loved her role as NaNa.  She enjoyed traveling, trips to the beach, bowling, shopping and watching the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Bonnie was always there to offer encouragement and met every challenge with a positive attitude. Her “Bonnie-ism’s” will live on in the hearts of her loved ones.

Survivors include her beloved husband Donald J. Hurtle of Orange; her daughter Michele L. (Hurtle) Burke, her husband James and their children Bailey and Keenan of Amherst, NH; her son Joseph A. Hurtle, his wife Rebecca and daughters RaeLeigh and Emme Castellow of Hampstead, NC; Kevin Hurtle, his wife Annette and son Evan Lu of Yorba Linda, CA and Kim (Hurtle) Jarvenpaa and her husband Scott of New Salem; her two brothers Howard A. Olson of Waleska, GA and John H. Olson, III of Cumming, GA and her sister Deborah A. Olson of Glendale, CA; her aunt Ann Marshall of Orange; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bonnie was predeceased by her parents.

There will be no calling hours.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
