GILBERTVILLE- Brenda Sue Rennie, 58, of Gilbertville, MA, went home to her Lord and Savior on November 23, 2023.

Brenda was born on December 2, 1964, in Cleveland, OH. She grew up in Berea, OH until her adolescent years when she attended and graduated from St. Rita School for the Deaf in Evendale, OH. Brenda studied at Northern Essex Community College in Baltimore, MD; the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA; and Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. She went on to teach American Sign Language at both GU and Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, MA.

 Brenda was extremely caring for others and a strong advocate for causes she was passionate about. She was an advocate for the Susan B. Coleman Foundation for breast cancer awareness, human rights in the deaf community, and the humane treatment of animals - to name a few. Family was very important to Brenda; she made the effort to stay connected and visited them as often as possible. She also spent a great deal of time researching her ancestry. Brenda was a very caring and generous person who considered her close friends as family.

 She cherished children and they adored her. She fulfilled the role of mother, godmother, and grandmother to the children closest to her. Brenda had a playful personality; she loved making people laugh and organizing surprises to bless others. She also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping, and playing in the snow. She was a football fanatic, mainly for the New England Patriots and Ohio State University.

Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Robert Rennie; mother, Sandra Sanner; stepmother, Joan Rennie; stepfather, Chuck Sanner; grandparents, Catherine Rennie Eckert, Frank Eckert, Robert Nihiser, and June Nihiser; uncles, William Rennie and Joseph Strayer; aunts, Eileen Parsons and Sue Strayer; and Cousin Karen Batruny.

Brenda is survived by her brother, Robert Rennie; uncle, Joseph Eckert (Jackie); aunt, Linda Dunlap-Stroemple; first cousins, Alan Eckert, Elizabeth Eckert Ross (Scott), Michael Rennie (Amber) Kelly Rennie, John Sposit, David Sposit, Cathy Brown (Doug), and Colleen Strayer-Moore; second cousins, Sarah English (James), Joyce Nwakanma, Jill Sposit, John Sposit, Jenifer Sposit and Stephanie Dempsey; third cousins Jayden English, Isaac English, Isabella English, Morgan English, Alexis Hudak, Sophie Jean, Leia Ross, Kaitlynn Dallas, Sara Nwakanma.

Also left to cherish her memory are her family of friends, Lorelei Currier, Raymond Currier, Charlene Jackson, and Hayley Bruinsma. Raegan Currier of whom she was like a mother, Gregory Whitney, Amber Currier, Killian Jackson of whom she was a godmother, Layla Jackson-Gulley and Little J, Justin Bruinsma of whom she considered a grandson,

Services will be held on Saturday, December 16 at 10:00 a.m. at New Life Assembly of God (60 Main St. South Barre MA 01074). There will be an ASL interpreter and possibly a live streaming through the church or live on Facebook.
