Brian M. Haskins Obituary

ORANGE- Brian M. Haskins, 82, died Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Born in Gardner on November 5, 1942, he was the son of Elmer M. and Bertha (Hume) Haskins.

Growing up in the Blissville section of Orange, he attended Orange schools and graduated from Ralph C. Mahar Regional School in 1960.

After graduation, Brian joined the United States Navy on July 27, 1960 and served in the “Kiddie Cruiser Program” until his honorable discharge on November 4, 1963.

Having met his future wife while working at Strathmore, he was encouraged by his mother to rekindle the romance with Carol and in 1970, Brian married Carol (Hadley) and they have enjoyed 55 years of marriage.

Brian had worked at the Union Twist Drill and the Strathmore Paper Company. While at Strathmore, he started his college experience at Holyoke Community College. Leaving Strathmore, he went to Worcester State, graduating in 1972. While in college, he worked at Athol Memorial Hospital and continued there after graduation.

Brian then went to work at Athol Credit Union, Ellis Pontiac and Toyota where he became an outstanding Business Manager. He then went to work at Beard Chevrolet and Pontiac until it closed. George Luddy Chevrolet in Holden was his last employment until it closed.

As an Orange resident, Brian served for several years on the Finance Committee. He volunteered for the Food Pantries at St. Vincent De Paul and Athol High School. He served as President of the Orange Seniors Club until health problems made it impossible to continue.

Family was one of the most important things for him.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Carol Haskins; children, David J. Haskins and Christine G. Hill, both of Orange; grandchildren, Alexis Simpson (Kyle), of Richmond, NH, Isaiah Hill, Evan Hill, and Nicholas Hill; one great grandchild, Bennett Simpson. He also leaves sisters, Janet Alden, Arline Noel, Catherine Campbell (Kerry), Margaret Lawless (William); brothers, Martin Haskins (Elaine), Douglas Haskins (Linda), and Brad Haskins (Susan); along with many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Thomas Haskins, a brother John Anthony Haskins at a young age, sisters, Sandra Senak and Mary Russell, as well as brothers in law, Albert Alden, Charles Noel and Stanley Senak.

Calling hours will be held on June 13, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.

A funeral service will be held on June 14, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home in Orange.

Interment with military honors, will be in South Cemetery, Orange.
