Caleb "Cabe" J. Babbitt Obituary

ATHOL- Caleb (Cabe) Babbitt, 81, of Bearsden Road, died on Friday, December 17, 2021, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT after a brief illness.

Born in Athol on February 14, 1940, he was the youngest son of the late Charles and Jessie (Sibley) Babbitt and lived his life “on the hill” in Athol.

On July 27, 1959, Caleb married Dorothy L. (Bobilin) and enjoyed 62 years of love and marriage while raising a family.

Cabe worked in logging, construction and at the Barre Wollen Mill, eventually settling in to work at the L.S. Starrett Company in Athol.  In 2003 after 25 years at “Starrett’s” Cabe retired.  He and Dot spent many years fulfilling their dream to travel, visiting family and friends and site seeing as they traveled across the country.

An avid hunter, Cabe enjoyed being outdoors.  He was a talented woodworker, logging and cutting trees to be milled to boards, designing, and building furniture and cabinetry.  He loved his tractor and would use any excuse to operate it.  He put his many talents to use as his children built or created their own homes and started families.

Caleb is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Babbitt and his five children, Julie Rathburn, and her husband Wayne of Athol; Clinton Babbitt and his wife Julie of Suntree, Florida; Craig Babbitt of Lake Arrowhead, California; Bonnie Moran and her husband Robert of Holden; Jeffery Babbitt and his girlfriend, Dr. Susan Sheahan, both of Lakewood Rance, Florida. He also leaves six grandchildren; Wayne, Traci, Elizabeth, Belsi, Ruby and Reyna and three great grandchildren; Madisyn, Hunter and Leilani; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Besides his parents, Cabe was predeceased by his brothers, Brian Mayo and Paul Babbitt.

Services will be scheduled later.
