ATHOL- Carl G. Stange Jr., 88, of White Pond Road, died on Sunday morning, December 20, 2020 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.
Born in Warwick on September 22, 1932, he was the son of Carl G. Sr. and Georgie (Bailey)
On January 16, 1953, Carl enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict and attained the rank of Corporal. He was honorably discharged on December 22, 1954.
In 1956, Carl Married Shirley A. (McNeil) and they enjoyed 60 years together, especially the last six months of Shirley’s life when Carl made her comfortable during her illness with much love and adoration for her.
Carl was employed at the former Cormier’s Garage in Orange and later went to work at the Union Twist Drill in Athol where he served as shop steward. He also enjoyed farming.
Carl and Shirley were huge race fans and especially loved watching the Stange Team. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren, doing anything for them.
Carl was a member of the Athol American Legion Post 102 and had also been a Boy Scout leader.
Carl is survived by his sons, Thomas Stange and his wife, Melanie, of Marlborough, NH, Dennis Stange and his wife, Donna, and Michael Stange and his wife, Stephanie, all of Athol; grandchildren, Erik Stange (Meghan), Sarah Smith and her husband, Peter, Stephanie Kapise and her husband, Neil, Ashley Baas, Chelsey Stange, Zachary Stange (Alyssa); many great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother, Conrad Stange (Jeannette) of Athol.
Besides his parents and beloved wife, Carl was predeceased by a daughter in law, Cindy Stange, a brother, Eugene Witham, and sisters, Carol Magnuson and Audrey MacKnight
There are no calling hours.
Private funeral services and interment with military honors will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
