ORANGE- Carl J. Smith Jr., 75, of Daniel Shays Highway, died Wednesday morning, July 14, 2021 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.
Born in Athol on January 18, 1946, he was the son of Carl Sr. and Helen (Sampson) Smith and grew up in Orange.
A jack of all trades, Carl could fix many things.
Employed by Athol Table Shop for a number of years, Carl had also dug graves for the Town of Orange Cemetery Department with his good friend and cemetery superintendent, Tom Forest.
Carl served in the Army National Guard.
An avid gardener, he spent numerous hours taking care of his gardens.
Carl his survived by his siblings, Carol Reed and her husband, James, of Warwick, Peggy Russell of Athol, Georgia “George” Ballou with whom he lived with, and Jenella Mitchell and her husband, Dwayne, all of Orange; along with nephews and nieces.
Carl was predeceased by his parents.
There are no calling hours.
Services and interment in South Cemetery, Orange, will be private.
