PETERSHAM- Carole Ann "Giga" Abbott (Cahill), 90, passed away on February 21, 2025, in Athol, Massachusetts.
Born on February 21, 1935, in Worcester, Massachusetts, Carole lived a life marked by independence, strength and devotion to her family.
Her journey of service began in 1954 when she joined the U.S. Navy. She attended the U.S. Naval Training center in Bainbridge, Maryland, an experience that took her overseas to France. During her enlistment, she inspired her younger brother Paul to follow in her footsteps and join the Navy as well. Upon returning from service abroad, she met her husband, Robert Abbott, a Navy pilot.
Beyond her military service, Carole was a woman of many passions and talents. She loved cooking in her kitchen - the heart of her home - where she created countless meals for those she cared about. Sunday mornings were often spent outdoors with a cup of coffee in hand, enjoying her birds and tending to her beloved flower gardens. In her younger years, she found joy performing in the theater. Later in life, she thrived on caring for others as a home health aide for the elderly where she often treated her clients with her culinary skills.
Carole's faith was the cornerstone of her life; she was deeply devoted to her Catholic beliefs and raised her children with the same strong foundation. She carried herself with grace and style - always well-dressed - and was known for her generosity and humor. In her later years, where she resided at Grandview Terrace in Barre, Massachusetts, she enjoyed serving as Secretary of the Board.
She is survived by her daughter Laurie Marsden (Abbott) and husband Rand; Laurie's son Nathan Teal and his wife Jasmine; and their children Jadalynn, Noah, Nolin and Niamph - all residing in Missouri. Carole also leaves behind Jadalynn's son Ash Seeley, her great-great-grandson. Her son Brien Abbott and his wife Tami mourn the passing along with their children: Chelsea and her husband, as well as Austin Abbott - all residing in Georgia.
Carole is predeceased by her parents Edward and Ann Cahill of Worcester, Massachusetts and her brothers Edward Cahill of Syracuse, New York, and Paul Cahill of Florida.
Her legacy lives on through the love she shared with family and friends, and the recipes she left behind. A celebration of life will be held at a late date with family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grandview Terrace in Barre, Massachusetts 01005.
