ROYALSTON- Clyde Boyer “Russ” Long III died on Friday, September 27, 2024 at Athol Hospital.
Born December 1, 1942 in Howe’s Neck, Quincy, MA and lived childhood and teen years in Newton, Quincy and Sudbury. He graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury High School.
Russ earned a BA from UMass-Boston and MBA from Rivier College in Nashua, NH.
He managed Nashoba Valley Olympia rinks in Boxborough for about 30 years, overseeing the construction of the second and third rinks there and running successful hockey and figure skating programs for children and adults.
In adulthood, Russ lived a few more years in Sudbury, a couple years in Littleton and Acton, then he lived 30 years in Groton and 20 years in Roylston.
Russ enjoyed skiing, golf, vegetable gardening, traveling, camping, boating and fishing. He was an avid hockey player, participating in adult leagues at both Nashoba Valley and later in Worcester with the Rusty Blades, a league for those over 45. Russ also loved and enjoyed music of all varieties.
Russ is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Christine Beckert Long; his daughter Jennifer Long, and her husband and son Wayne and James Blean.
There are no calling hours or services at this time.
