ATHOL, MA - Cynthia R. (Butler) Barnes, 94, of Daniel Shays Highway, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, February 9, 2025, with a loved one by her side, at Baldwinville Nursing Home in Baldwinville, MA.
Born in Framingham, MA on October 24, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mildred (MacPhee) Butler. Grew up in Framingham attending Framingham schools and attended LaSalle College. After graduation, Cindy worked in a bank, met and married her husband John Barnes, John and Cindy enjoyed over 30 years of marriage together. She was a secretary in the Petersham Center School for many years and spoke fondly of the students and staff.
Cindy spent her younger years with her family and friends on Prince Edward Island and her cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee. Where she met her long time- friend Jean, and they remained best friends for 90 years.
Cindy lover her two cats, Curry and Josie, enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots, traveling with family and friends, dining out, gardening, reading and bird watching. Cindy also enjoyed holidays and barbeques with her caregivers and their families.
Cindy is survived by her loving cousins, Nancy Perry of Wayland, Elizabeth Porter and her husband, Dave of Natick, her nephew, Ron Barnes of New Jersey, nieces, Marcia Verber of Virginia, Cathy Linskens of Wisconsin, her long-time friend, Jean Pennucci of Arkansas, Merl Newton of Winchendon, and her loving caregivers, Sarah Brouillet of South Deerfield and Donna LaMarche of Orange.
A special thank you to her nurse and staff at the Baldwinville Nursing Home and Hospice. Also, Pat Pierson and Julie Laird for their compassion and friendship shown to Cindy over the years.
Besides her parents and husband, Cindy was predeceased by a brother, Louis Butler, her nephew, David Butler, and a niece, Joanne Dowyer.
Calling hours and services will be held privately in the spring.
