ATHOL- Dolores Ruth (Scott) Smith, 94, of School Street and formerly of Old New Salem Road in Petersham, died early Sunday morning, October 8, 2023 at Extended Care Center at Amherst.
Born in Throgs Neck, New York, she was the daughter of Seymour L. and Bertha (McCretton) Scott and attended schools there as well as an Art School.
Dolores had worked many jobs including, Fort Schuyler for Admiral Leary, a bonded messenger for a Wall Street firm, in the sweater department at Bergdorf Goodman of New York City, was a traveling microwave demo person, traveling sales assistant at car dealerships, Thom McCann Shoe in Athol, as an Avon lady, a personal cook through an agency as well as a cook at the Brandon School in Petersham, and her most loved job as a school bus driver for Petersham Center School.
She had four children and their spouses, Deirdre Weisman, David Lockesmith, Douglas Smith and Scott Smith (of blessed memory); eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren;a brother, Charles Scott; and many others she treated as her own.
Her door was always open with cup of tea and a listening ear. Her church was nature and she passed that on to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
The family will cherish their time with her in her final days.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Interment will be in the West Street Cemetery, Petersham.
In lieu of flowers, Dolores had suggested before passing, that donations could be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or to a favorite animal shelter.
