Donald Hachey

PETERSHAM- Early Monday morning, October 2, 2023, Donald T. Hachey, aged 88, of Petersham, MA died at home quietly in his sleep.

Donald was born in Waterville, Maine to William and Georgiana Hachey. After graduating from Winslow High School, he moved to Massachusetts, attending and graduating from Bentley School of Accounting and Finance, as well as New England Law Boston. He met his wife, Anne, while still in school. They married surrounded by family and their friends, Shirley and Jerry Bloom before starting a family; having 3 daughters; Linda, Anita and Donna. They moved to Western Massachusetts, living in Orange and Petersham while he practiced law for almost 40 years before retiring in 2002 to enjoy the quiet peacefulness of their Petersham home.

Donald loved his family above all else working hard to provide a lovely home, helping his daughters all get a university education and later having all their families over for the

holidays. He practically lived for Christmas probably due to childhood memories of shopping for discounted gifts on Christmas Eve with his father. He had all his decorations

everywhere and his "Ho Ho Ho!" echoed throughout the house practically all year long.

Besides his family, nothing made him happier than mowing the lawn, "fixing" things around the house and watching sports on TV. His lawn looked great. While his repairs

might be a bit sketchy at times, he tried his hand at anything. The sports he enjoyed watching most were football and basketball, most likely since he was a star quarterback

and forward on his high school football and basketball teams respectively.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, William and Georgiana, along with his eldest brother Richard.

He is survived by his wife, Anne, their 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren: Zach, Dayna, Dylan, Zoe and Sabrina; as well as his middle brother, Reginald, and sister, Marlene.

We have to thank several people who helped us make Donald's final months more comfortable at home where he wanted to stay; Amber, Mike and Marc at Lifepath.

Furthermore, the caring nurses like Joi, Taylor, Stephanie and other staff from Care Central VNA & Hospice in Gardner helped us at a dark time.

Donald wished to have a simple service and be buried at the Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, New Hampshire, so there will not be any formal visiting hours. A small graveside

burial is planned for May 11, 2024. Details for the service will be forwarded as they solidify.

Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, is assisting the family.
