Donald F. Green Obituary

August 22, 2021 Donald F. Green ATHOL- Donald Frederick Green of Athol, passed away at the age of 77 from kidney cancer on August 19, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. Donald was born in Stonington, CT.

He was the son of Charles and Dorothy Green of Groton, CT. Donald lived his early years in Groton CT and attended the local schools there. He later moved to New Jersey and then Orange, MA.

While in CT Donald worked for The American Velvet Company, Atlantic Transformer Company, the HR Hillary Company, and General Dynamics Electric Boat working on submarines, where his trade was a pipefitter. In 1976 Don moved his family to Millville, NJ, then in 1981 the family later moved to Orange MA.

Donald enjoyed working for WHIPPS, Inc. of Athol for many years until his retirement in 2012. He talked very highly of George and Polly Whipps. He enjoyed stopping in for coffee and donuts and catching up with everyone for years after retirement.

In Groton CT, Don was in a local band called “The RamRods.” with his best friend Vic Miller and Jeff Miller. Don and Vic, along with Vic’s sister Marilyn Morin continued to have a little musical group after retirement called “The Miller’s River Combo”, the three of them would play at local Nursing Homes.

Donald enjoyed country music, Texas line dancing, and taking country dance lessons. He loved going to the old Silver Spur and attending the Jamborees with many good friends.

Don was a helpful friend to all who knew him, whether it was a ride to the doctors, the hospital or working on someone’s home in need of repairs. Everyone could call on Don to help.

Donald was pre-deceased by his second wife Donna Murphy Green of Athol in 2000. They enjoyed five years of marriage together. Leaving his Step-Children, Kenny Robichaud, his wife Lisa, along with their three children, Kim Robichaud and her three children, Karen Mundell, her husband Chuck and their two children, Kelly Carey, her husband Chris and their two children. Donald and his first wife, Faith Miller Green Pace (pre-deceased), raised three daughters together. He is survived by his two daughters, Allyson J. Duguay of Athol, and his daughter Carrie Green Charest along with her husband Keith, of Orange. His youngest daughter, Penny Green Gelinas has pre-deceased him, passing in 2002 from kidney cancer. Donald leaves five grandchildren, Alicia Torosian and her wife Amanda of NH, Sarah Duguay of Baldwinville, Matthew Duguay of Athol, Robin Shufelt of Orange and Colton Shufelt of Orange. He also leaves many great grandchildren, Arianna and Sierra Mahan, Brianna Marie and Dylan Stamper, Shyla Mae Barnes, Landon Duguay, Jaden and Autumn Davis and Kylah Blundon. Donald is Pre-deceased by his parents, and siblings. A brother, Edward R. Green of Groton, CT, an infant sister Joy Green, and sister Mary Lemmon of Waterford, CT. He is survived by his twin, Arnold Joseph Green from Groton, CT and his youngest brother Charles M. Green of Chesapeake, VA. He also leaves several nephews and a niece.

Don was a hard-working respected and loved man who will forever be remembered.

A memorial service will be held at the Erving Evangelical Church, 4 East Main Street, Erving, by his lifelong friend, Pastor Vic Miller, on Saturday August 28th at 10:30 am.
