ATHOL- Donald J. Salls, 70, of Athol, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Athol Memorial Hospital surrounded by loved ones.
He was born in Ware on May 16, 1952 to the late Darwin and Carolyn L. (Tanski) Salls.
Donald is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Salls and hubby Tim Britt of Orange and Michelle Salls of Orange; grandchildren Gage Frank, Lillian Melanson, Cole Britt, Brandon Hennessey, Penny Payne, Logan Salls and Gabriel Salls; a great-grandson, Byron ; a great-grand-daughter, Ember Melanson , three brothers, David Salls, Douglas Salls and Daren Salls and wife Carrie; three sisters, Cheryl Jefferson and husband Ben Greene, Lori LaRhette , Heidi McCassie; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Donald was predeceased by a son, Jason W. Salls, on December 4, 2022.
A graduate of Quabog High School, Donald was a SGT in the Air Force and was an airplane mechanic as well as cook He was a proud Vietnam Vet and would let you know about it.
He loved repairing electronics ,cooking, ,fishing, camping, mushroom foraging and was multi-lingual .He was an avid ham radio operator, assisting in numerous search and rescue efforts as well as The Boston Marathons through the years.
There are no calling hours.
A funeral will be in the spring at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon with A Celebration of Life at Tully Lake.
