ORANGE- Dorothy S. “Sandy” (Buzzell)(Laffond) Spooner, 81, of East River Street, died peacefully Friday evening, August 18, 2023 at the home of her son, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Gardner on September 16, 1941, she was the daughter of Wallace E. and Helen G. (Sinclair) Buzzell and grew up in the Athol- Orange area, graduating from Ralph C. Mahar Regional in 1960.
In 1961, she married Alfred Laffond and had five children. After that marriage, she later married Richard Spooner who predeceased her.
Sandy worked as a sharpener for the Union Twist Drill Co., as well as a cook for the school system, was a school bus driver, and had also worked at Frederick’s Rubber. Sandy had also served as the manager for the Knights of Columbus in Orange.
Sandy enjoyed her family as well as playing bingo and going to the casinos, especially Foxwoods.
Sandy his survived by her children, Kathy Griffith and her husband, Gary, of Athol, Steven Laffond and his wife, Corina, of Corona, CA, Anthony Laffond and his wife, Victoria, of Athol; grandchildren, Angela Paul, Timothy Griffith, Hannah Geith, Lucas Laffond, Dillon Laffond, Elizabeth Pereira, Jessica Procopio, David Welcome and Michael Welcome ; great grandchildren, Tammy Paul, Haleigh Paul, Madison Gulley, Desirae Paul, Donovan Paul, Cora Mehr, Gabriel Mehr, Brantley Griffith, Zoey-Marie Griffith, Oliver Geith and Eleanora Geith, Ryleigh, Quinton, Matteo, Ryan and Sophia; three great, great grandchildren; as well as several other extended family members.
Besides her parents and husbands, Sandy was predeceased by a sons, David A. Laffond and Lawrence Laffond, a great grandson, Liam Griffith, and a brother, Ronald Buzzell.
There are no calling hours.
Celebration of life on October 15, 2023 from 3-6 p.m. at the Athol American Legion, corner of Exchange Street and Pequoig Avenue, Athol.
Interment in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol will be private.
