ATHOL- Douglas Bowker, 90, of Athol, Ma. died on February 2nd, 2023.
He was born in Keene, N.H.,son of the late Leo and Eva Bowker.
Doug lived most of his life in Athol, worked at the L.S. Starrett Co., and later on met and married Phyllis Dunshee, who, along with her five children, welcomed him into their lives.
Later on, Doug and Phyllis were blessed with a daughter, Beverlee.
Throughout his life, though a quiet man, he and Phyllis traveled across the country, visiting family and vacation spots they both enjoyed, including California, Tennessee and New York City and family vacations to the Cape.
Among Doug’s pleasures were playing the piano which he had self taught to play himself, and being with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also loved baking and making home-made doughnuts, listening to classical music including the Boston Pops, and taking walks in the Quabbin.
Doug was predeceased by Phyllis, who died in November, 2021, his parents, his two brothers, Richard Bowker and Eddie Bowker, and a son, Marlin Dunshee.
Doug and Phyllis had been married 60 years, at the time of her death.
He leaves his daughters Beverlee Green (Craig), Wini Tamillo, Pat DeSanto, Marlene Gravallese, and son, William Dunshee; grandchildren Travis Tamillo, Ashlee Bass, Deanna Rodriguez, Sean Green, and Brian, Scott, Marc Dunshee; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Doug was a loving companion to and for our mother, a supportive father in our growing-up years, and he had a kind, playful presence with our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
It is the end of an era, though one with many memories, Thank You Dad.
The family is grateful to Quabbin Valley Healthcare for their kind and compassionate care they gave Doug.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside service in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol, will be held at a later date to be announced.
Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, is assisting the family.
