ERVING- Douglas M. Walker, 78, of Mountain Road, died at home early Tuesday morning, January 24, 2023 following an illness, with loved ones at his side.
Born in Northfield on June 25, 1944, he was the son of the late William C. and Florence (Miller) Walker and attended Northfield schools and graduated from Greenfield Commerce School.
On September 12, 1993, Doug married Mary (Whitmore) and enjoyed 29 years of marriage but more so enjoyed a friendship of 43 years.
Doug was employed with Erving Paper Mill for 38 years before retiring.
An avid sports fan, Doug enjoyed all the New England sports, but especially the Boston Bruins.
Doug had a gift for making others laugh and enjoyed all the family functions. He liked to play cards, going to the casino, playing Keno, and grilling for everyone.
Doug loved his John Deere tractor and was known for plowing out his neighbors during the winter. He loved his log cabin and Walker Mountain.
A member of the Erving Fire Department, Doug was also a member of the Orange American Legion and the Harmony Lodge of Freemasons.
Doug leaves his loving wife, Mary Walker of Erving; his children, Shawn Walker (Jenn) of North Carolina, Scott Walker of Warwick and Brad Walker (Beth) of Northfield; step children, Michelle Guerin (George) of Greenfield, Kim Guerin (Derrick) of Athol and BJ Guerin of Athol; grandchildren, Stephanie Walker and Bryan Walker, both of North Carolina, Kelsey Walker of Warwick, Lily Walker of Barre, Benjamin Walker of Orange, Sofia Walker and Austin Walker, both of Northfield, Kirsten Tuller of Brattleboro, Vermont, Shana Vigneau of North Carolina, Shane Harty of Washington, Kayla Robideau, Kiki Guerin and Tyler Guerin, all of Athol; two great grandchildren, Aiden Brown of Brattleboro, Vermont and Hayden Guerin of Gardner.
Doug also leaves a sister, Ethel Walker of New York and a brother, Richard Walker, of Northfield; as well as several nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents, Doug was predeceased by a son, Brent Walker on January 4, 2023; and brothers, William, Sidney, Daniel and James Walker.
There are no calling hours.
A celebration of life will be held on February 18, 2023 from 12-6 p.m. at the Orange American Legion, 40 Daniel Shays Highway, Orange.
