ORANGE- Edward J. O’Brien, 69, of Brookside Road, died on Sunday evening, December 14, 2025 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester.
Born in Chelsea on July 13, 1956, he was the son of Edward J. Sr. and Margaret T. (Rodriguez) O’Brien and grew up in Stoughton, graduating from Stoughton High School in 1974.
Edward married Heidi (Herk) in 2019 enjoying 6 years of marriage, but together for 36 years.
Employed by Duall Plastics (later becoming Pexco) as a foreman and salesman, Edward retired after 40 years.
Edward enjoyed the companionship of his dog, “Maggie Mae”, and doted over her all the time, including taking her to Silver Lake Park twice a day for a walk and during the warmer months a quick swim. He was an avid Red Sox fan, loved the Patriots and Washington Redskins. He was a skilled cook who loved to entertain. Edward also took great pride in his vegetable gardens.
Edward is survived by his wife, Heidi O’Brien of Orange; his children, Melissa Willis (James) of Pembroke, Craig O’Brien (Mandi) of Laveen, AZ, Matthew O’Brien of Hyannis, Christopher O’Brien of Portland, OR, and Meaghan Herk of Winchendon; grandchildren, Skyla Nardi (Matthew) and Aidan O’Brien, all of Laveen, AZ, Samuel Willis of Pembroke, Cambri Langston and Amalia Logan, both of Winchendon; a great granddaughter, Summer Nardi of Laveen, AZ; sisters, Margaret Carpenter, Patricia DaCosta (Fred), Karen Durham (Thomas, Pamela Johnson, Elizabeth Sico (Raymond) and Kathleen Kellogg (Harvey); a brother, John O’Brien (Diane); a brothers in law, James Lister, Randy Herk (Betty) and John Doherty; sisters in law, Robin Briand (Phil) and Debbie Schiappa (Mike); mother in law, Sue Herk; and many nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents, Edward was predeceased by a sister, Christine Lister, brothers in law Larry Carpenter and David Johnson, as well as sister in law, Donna Doherty.
There are no calling hours.
A celebration of life will take place later in 2026 at a date and time to be announced.
