ORANGE- Elwin F. “Buddy” Deveneau Jr., 65, of Tully Road, died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 after being stricken ill.
Born in Greenfield on December 26, 1959, he was the son of Elwin Sr. and Gladys (Chaplin) Deveneau and grew up in the Athol- Orange area, graduating from Athol High.
Following high school, Buddy served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.
He had been married to Diana (Rushford) in 1982.
Buddy was a well known fence installer and had worked for DeLuca Fence and retired from Steelco, later owning and operating his own fencing company EFD Fence. Buddy had previously worked for B&M Railroad.
An outdoorsman, Buddy enjoyed fishing and hunting, but treasured time with his family the most.
Survivors include his children, Ashley Deveneau of Fitchburg, Kelly Deveneau (Josh Godfrey) of Templeton, and Austin Deveneau (Lanie Denham) of Swanzey, NH; grandchildren, Damien Jones, Zamira Jones, Zayden Hill, Jaykob Godfrey and Jaxon Vaillancourt; parents, Elwin Sr. and Gladys Deveneau of Athol; brothers, Craig Deveneau of Phillipston and Curtis Deveneau and his wife Laurie of Royalston; a sister, Cindy Deveneau of Winchendon; many nephews and nieces; his former wife, Diana Deveneau of Templeton; his grand pups Daisy and Maverick and his cat, Phucar.
Buddy was predeceased by a sister, Leighann Deveneau-Martinelli on March 4, 2016.
Calling hours will be held on February 9, 2025 from 1-3 p.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
There is no formal funeral service.
