GREENFIELD- Gerald R. Carey, Jr. passed away on June 12th with family at his side.
He was the son of the late Gerald Sr. and Charlotte Carey. He will be greatly missed by his family. He leaves his sons Jim (Kate) and Jerry (Alejandra), grandchildren Cristina, Wade, and Elle. He also leaves his siblings Kevin (Kathy), Michael (Ellen), Deborah, Vickie (David), and Lynda (Robert) and many other loving family members and friends. Gerry was predeceased by his daughter Jessica and sister Lila.
Gerry spent many years working alongside his father and brothers at Carey Lumber. Later, he worked in construction with his close friend Carol. He was a skilled carpenter and craftsman.
He found solace in the woods, often retreating to the quiet peace of nature and the joy of fishing. Gerry also enjoyed softball and played for many years throughout his life.
He cherished visits with family and was always a supportive presence, celebrating everyone's activities and accomplishments with pride.
A lifelong New England sports fan, Gerry loved the Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots, and Celtics. He also loved horse racing and playing slots at the casino.
Those who knew him will remember Gerry as a gentle, caring soul with a generous heart and a readiness to help anyone in need. His warmth, humility, and quiet strength touched the lives of many and will be fondly remembered.
A funeral service will be held on June 29th at 1pm in Shutesbury at West Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at the Shutesbury Athletic Club.
