ATHOL- Harold C. Matthews, 71, of Lake Street, died on Tuesday afternoon, February 23, 2021 at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare, 119 Belmont Street, Worcester.
Born in Ware on December 16, 1949, he was the son of Donald H. and Edna (Currier) Matthews and grew p in Greenfield and earned his GED as well as a Business Degree from Greenfield Community College.
Harold was a truck driver for over 20 years and had operated Harold’s Express, picking up bulk mail and delivering to various Post Offices. He had also driven school bus and delivered The Recorder newspapers.
Harold married Diane (Piragis) on June 10, 1988. He was previously married to Sally (Grueling).
Harold loved fishing and playing bingo, especially with car 54.
Survivors include wife, Diane Matthews of Athol; his children, Holly Matthews and Heidi Saviski, both of Athol, and Sheila Matthews of Arizona; a step daughter, Jill Piragis of Keene, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Ashley Saviski of Orange, Allen Matthews of the United States Army serving in Germany, Tyler Matthews of Athol, Thomas Reddy of Ohio, Austin Matthews, Nevaeh Matthews and Destiny Matthews, all of Athol; a great grandson, Alexander Matthews of Pepperrell and another on the way; an “adopted” granddaughter, Cheyenne Adams of Athol.
Harold also leaves behind his caregiver, Tina Pace of Athol; brothers, Walter Matthews of Maine and Andrew Matthews of Florida; and several nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents, Harold was predeceased by a sister, Donna Matthews and a brother, Donald Matthews.
There are no calling hours and services will be held at a future date.
