WENDELL- Harry S. “Will” Williston III, 84, of Wendell Depot Road, died on Tuesday afternoon, January 23, 2024 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut on December 7, 1939, he was the son of Harry S. Jr. and Marie H. (Dunhamel) Williston and grew up in Williamsburg, MA, graduating from Williamsburg High School. He later earned his Master’s degree from Westfield University.
On July 1, 1967, Will married Dolores I. (Lewis) and enjoyed 56 years of marriage.
Will was a teacher and principal at Wendell Center School for 20 years and was also a supervisor at Vegetation Control Service (VCS) in Athol for years.
Always willing to help and serve others, Will was a member of the Wendell Fire Department, served as a Wendell Road Commissioner as well as a Selectman for the Town of Wendell. Will also had been a member of the former Athol-Orange Elks Lodge 1837 and the First Congregational Church of Montague where he practiced his faith strongly.
Survivors include his loving wife, Dolores Williston of Wendell; A son, Richard “Rick” Williston and his wife, Kimberly, of Newbury, SC; many grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Sydney O’lari of Cummington; a brother, Samuel Williston of Northampton; and many nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents, Will was predeceased by a brother, Donald Williston, in 2023.
There are no calling hours.
Services and interment in West Orange Cemetery, orange, will be private.
Donations may be made to the donor’s choice in his memory.
