ORANGE- Helen E. (Davis) Hastings, 89, of East Road, died early Saturday morning, December 19, 2020, just ten days from her 90th birthday, at Charlene Manor in Greenfield.
Born on the family farm in Orange on December 29, 1930 she was the daughter of Harold and Veva (Dexter) Davis and grew up in Orange, graduating from Orange High School in 1948. Helen later graduated from Framingham Teacher’s College in 1953 with a degree in nutrition.
Helen was married to Leon Hastings in 1970, who died the following year.
A Registered Nutritionist, Helen had worked in New York and Chicago before returning to Massachusetts and working at several hospitals here.
Helen has been a long time member of the Orange United Methodist Church.
An avid gardener, Helen always had a bountiful garden and wonderful flowers. She was an excellent cook that loved feeding her family. Cats also gave Helen much pleasure.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Doane and her husband, William, of Orange; grandchildren, Albert Doane of Alabama, Marguerite Doane and Jennifer Doane, both of Orange; a great granddaughter, Hope; and two great, great granddaughters. Helen also leaves a brother, Bernard Davis of Wendell and several nephews and nieces.
Besides her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by a sister and brother in law, Arlene and Nelson Brewer.
There are no calling hours.
A private graveside service will be held in Jones Cemetery, Orange.
